These bright dots and stripes coordinate with a quilting theme fabric and have a touch of 40's retro feel. Arnold's Attic

Arnold's Attic by Barbara Brackman for Moda is a quilting collection based on fabric sent to Barbara from her pen pal Arnold Hegy Savage.  The fabric that Barbara received was from the attic of Arnold's 1840 house in which his mother, aunt and grandmothers quilted and collected fabric.  All of the fabrics in this collection are named after Arnold's family members.

Asagohan

These lively and graphic black, cream and red prints are from the Asagohan (breakfast) group of prints from Hokkoh of Japan. The fabrics feature Japanese kitchen utensils and vegetables. 2009 was the first time this company from Japan exhibited at Quilt Market and hopefully not the last!

Bamboo Geisha - ON SALE

 

Asian Bamboo Geisha from Timeless Treasures Fabrics is an Asian influenced quilt collection with a contemporary feel. Colors and textures are bright pastels and chocolate browns.

Batiks

The fabric is either painted by hand with dye, batiked, or created with a combination of these processes. Some designs have as many as five different techniques used to create the finished piece. The patterns, which use traditional ‘batik’ methods, are created using a special copper ‘chop’. The chop is dipped in hot wax and stamped onto the cloth, creating a wax-resisted design. The 100% cotton fabric is then saturated and hand painted with fiber reactive dyes. Where the wax has been applied, the color is repelled, thus creating the image that you see. Sometimes this process is repeated several times with each overlay of color adding a new dimension. Because human hands make each design in a natural environment, no two yards are exactly alike. This cloth is truly a piece of art.
